The Rustic Oak Floating Shelf is a solid oak wall shelf with a deep 19.5cm surface and a characterful, rustic face, handmade to order in our Yorkshire workshop. It gives you almost 20cm of depth, more than a standard floating shelf, so there is room for books, plants and everyday display without anything perched on the edge.

This is the rustic choice in our oak range. We pick boards with more of everything real wood does: prominent knots, open grain and natural cracks, the character marks a cleaner shelf is sanded away from. It is solid oak all the way through, so it can be given a fresh coat of oil or sanded back over the years, and no two shelves come out the same.

Made to order from 30cm to 150cm long and 3cm thick, cut to the length your wall needs. It hangs on concealed floating brackets, so there are no visible screws or supports, just the shelf sitting flush to the wall. Screws and wall plugs are supplied. You will need a drill, and a masonry bit for brick or block walls.

Because it is chosen for character, expect knots, grain movement and the odd natural crack, known as checking, as the oak settles into your home. These are the marks of solid timber, not faults.

Handmade in Yorkshire in seven hand finished oak waxes, with a lifetime structural guarantee and free UK delivery. Need a length outside 30cm to 150cm? Just ask, every shelf is cut to order.

Prefer a cleaner, standard face? See our Solid Oak Floating Shelf, or browse all oak floating shelves.

WOOD MATERIAL

Solid oak throughout, hand finished in your choice of oak wax. This is our rustic grade, so it carries more of the knots, grain movement and natural cracks that give real oak its character. As a natural material the oak can move, mark and check a little over time. These are the character of solid wood rather than faults. Our timber is FSC certified from responsibly managed forests.

GOOD TO KNOW

Our Rustic Oak Shelves

This is the rustic option in our oak range. We choose boards for character, so expect prominent knots, open grain and the odd natural crack. If you want a cleaner, more uniform face, our standard Solid Oak Floating Shelf is the better choice.

Cracks and checking

As solid oak settles into your home it can develop small surface cracks, known as checking. This is normal for natural timber and is not a fault. It can be left as part of the character or filled with a matching wax.

Fixing it to the wall

The shelf hangs on concealed floating brackets with no visible fixings. Screws and wall plugs are supplied. It fixes best into solid brick or block, and we would not recommend the longer lengths on plasterboard alone.

Colour and finish

Each shelf is finished by hand, and no two pieces of oak take the finish in quite the same way. Colours can also look slightly different from one screen to another. These variations are normal and are not a fault.

INSTALLATION

The shelf hangs on concealed floating brackets, routed into the back and fitted before dispatch. Screws and wall plugs are supplied. You will need a drill, and a masonry bit for brick or block walls. For a secure fixing we recommend brick or block rather than plasterboard alone, especially on the longer lengths.
