What makes a console table rustic
A rustic console table keeps the natural character of the wood on show. You see the knots, the grain and the small variations that come from solid timber, finished with a hand applied wax rather than a flat painted or plastic coating. Every top in this collection is solid wood, so no two are quite the same, and each one can be sanded and refinished over the years rather than replaced.
Slim rustic console tables for narrow hallways
If your hallway is tight, depth matters more than width. Our Radiator Console Table and Industrial Console Table both have a solid pine top just 22cm deep, so they sit close to the wall and leave the walkway clear. The Radiator Console Table comes in three heights, 75cm, 85cm and 95cm, so it can clear a radiator, and the open design with no lower shelf lets warm air rise freely past the top. Leave a gap of at least 10cm between the top of the radiator and the underside of the table.
Farmhouse rustic console tables with a shelf
Want somewhere to drop shoes, baskets or a bag as well as a surface on top? A farmhouse console table adds a fixed lower shelf. The Wooden Console Table with Shelf is solid pine with a chunky top on splayed A frame legs and arrives fully assembled. The Bramham Console Table is a traditional farmhouse design with a lower shelf, made in 60cm, 90cm, 120cm and 140cm widths.
Rustic console tables with hairpin legs
For a lighter look, the Hawes Rustic Console Table sets a solid wood top on black steel hairpin legs. With no frame or shelf below, it suits a smaller hallway or the space behind a sofa, and comes in lengths from 40cm to 150cm.
How to choose the right size
Start with depth. Measure how much walkway you need to keep clear, then choose a table that leaves it free. A 22cm deep top suits most narrow hallways. For width, a console usually looks best at roughly two thirds of the wall it stands against, and over a radiator it should be at least as wide as the radiator itself. Most of our tables are cut to order in 10cm steps, so you can match the space exactly.
Pine or oak
Most of our rustic console tables are made from solid pine, which is warm, light and full of knots, the classic rustic look. If you prefer a finer grain and a harder wearing surface, our Solid Oak Console Table is built from oak throughout and sits in the main wooden console tables collection.
