What is an oak console table
An oak console table is a long, narrow table made from oak that stands against a wall, usually in a hallway, behind a sofa or on a landing. It gives you a surface for keys, post, a lamp or a display without the footprint of a full table. Every console in this collection has a solid oak top, so the surface can be sanded and refinished over the years rather than replaced.
Slim oak console tables on hairpin legs
The Oak Console Table pairs a slim solid oak top with steel hairpin legs, so it takes up very little room and suits a narrow hallway. It is made to length from 50cm to 180cm, finished with an oil in Heritage Oak or Walnut, and is a popular choice for sitting over a radiator.
Solid oak console tables with open legs
The Solid Oak Console Table is oak from top to legs, with a chunky 30mm top on open oak legs made in our own workshop. It is 30cm deep, comes in two heights, 75cm and 95cm, and is cut to your length from 50cm to 150cm. The legs and top ship separately and fix together in a few minutes.
Oak console tables with drawers
The Oak Console Table with Drawers is a farmhouse design with turned oak legs and drawers set into the frame. Lengths up to 90cm have one drawer and lengths from 100cm have two, each on metal runners. It comes in three depths, 30cm, 45cm and 60cm, stands 75cm high and arrives with the legs already attached. Which oak console table is right for you
If your hallway is tight or the console needs to sit over a radiator, the slim hairpin design keeps the floor clear and lets warm air rise past it. If you want a clean, contemporary look in solid oak, or a taller table behind a sofa, the open leg design in 75cm or 95cm is the one to choose. If you want somewhere to put things away as well as set them down, the farmhouse design with drawers keeps keys, post and chargers out of sight and gives you the most surface, up to 60cm deep.
How to choose the right size
Start with depth. Measure the walkway you need to keep clear and choose a top that leaves it free; 30cm suits most hallways, while 45cm or 60cm works behind a sofa or on a wide landing. For length, a console usually looks best at around two thirds of the wall it stands against. Over a radiator, choose a table at least as long as the radiator and leave a gap of at least 10cm between the top of the radiator and the underside of the table.
Oak finishes
The Solid Oak Console Table and the Oak Console Table with Drawers come in seven hand applied oak finishes: Natural, Whitewash, Honey, Light Roast, Heritage, Walnut and Dark Roast. That covers everything from a pale, natural oak to a rich dark oak, so you can match your floor, doors or other furniture. The slim hairpin console comes in Heritage Oak or Walnut.
