Narrow Oak Radiator Shelf

Each shelf is made to order in our Yorkshire workshop in small production runs. Please allow 3 to 5 working days for us to build and finish it before dispatch. We always aim to meet this lead time, though during busier periods it can occasionally take a little longer. Once dispatched, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking details, and your order is sent on a tracked courier service, carefully packaged to arrive safely.

Solid oak all the way through, cut from FSC certified timber, so it can be sanded and refinished over the years rather than replaced. Solid oak is naturally hard wearing and well suited to sitting above a radiator, which is part of why it is such a popular choice for the job.

Our Oak Radiator Shelves

Every shelf is handcrafted from solid oak, so each one is unique. The grain, knots and colour vary from piece to piece, and as a natural material the oak may develop small cracks and splits as it settles into your home. These are the character of real wood rather than faults.

Colour and finish

Each shelf is finished by hand in your chosen shade, and no two pieces of oak take the finish in quite the same way. Colours can also look slightly different from one screen to another. These natural variations are normal and are not a fault.

Installation

Each shelf is fixed with keyhole fixings routed into the back, so it hangs straight onto screws in the wall and sits flush with no visible brackets. Fixings for solid masonry walls are included. It can also be fitted to a plasterboard wall, but you would need to source the appropriate plasterboard fixings for your wall type, as the supplied fixings are for solid walls. Use a level so it sits true, and please have it fitted by a competent person or professional.

Fitting above your radiator

Leave a gap between the top of the radiator and the underside of the shelf so warm air can circulate freely. As a guide, allow at least 5cm above a modern panel radiator, and more, up to around 15cm, above a hotter cast iron radiator or if you have gone for a deeper shelf. The greater the clearance, the better the heat moves around the room, and the more it protects the shelf over time. A little side overhang, around 3 to 4cm each end, also helps the heat rise past the shelf.
