Product description

Product Overview:

  • Made from solid oak โ€“ strong, durable and built to last
  • Floating design with hidden fixings for a clean look
  • Fits any room โ€“ ideal for kitchens, living rooms and offices
  • Thirteen lengths from 30cm to 150cm, and seven wax finishes

Description:

If you want extra storage without adding bulky furniture, this solid oak floating shelf is a simple, reliable fix. Handmade in our Yorkshire workshop, it gives you a strong, dependable surface for everyday items while keeping your room looking tidy. This listing is for a single solid oak floating shelf, ideal when you only need one shelf or are filling a smaller space.

This solid oak floating shelf works well as a small wall shelf in kitchens, bedrooms, or home offices.

Solid oak is naturally more durable than softer woods like pine, so itโ€™s a great choice if you want a shelf that wonโ€™t sag, dent or warp over time. The natural grain gives each piece a clean, understated look that works well in modern and traditional spaces alike.

The shelf uses hidden floating fixings, so once fitted youโ€™re left with a neat, bracket-free finish. Itโ€™s ideal in kitchens for cups and glasses, in living rooms for books and photos, or as a simple display shelf anywhere you need extra space.

Because each shelf is made to order, you can choose the size and finish that suits your home best. Whether youโ€™re filling a small gap or creating a longer run of shelving, oak offers strength, character and longevity.

Choosing the Right Size

Shorter lengths are great for small spaces or above radiators. Longer sizes provide more room for styling in kitchens, living rooms and bedrooms. If none of the thirteen lengths is right, message us and we will make it to your measurement.

WOOD MATERIAL

This Floating Shelf is crafted from solid oak, ensuring durability and longevity.

Sustainability Sourced Materials

We take great pride in sourcing all of our wood from FSC certified suppliers, who are committed to responsible forest management practices. This means that not only is our wood sustainably sourced, but it is also harvested in a way that preserves the delicate ecosystem of our forests.

GOOD TO KNOW

Choosing your length

Lengths run from 30cm to 150cm in 10cm steps. If you are filling an alcove or a particular gap and none of those is right, we will make it to your exact measurement. Message us on WhatsApp with the size โ€” the button is on this page โ€” and we will sort it.

Not sure which finish?

We can post you samples of all seven oak finishes so you can compare them at home. See the sample pack

Wood material

The beauty of the material we use is that it displays the natural characteristics of the wood. Every shelf will show unique character including cracks, splits, knots and uneven edges, so no two are the same. All sizes are approximate due to the nature of solid timber.

Colour disclaimer

When viewing items online, colours can vary from one screen to another. Wooden furniture also varies naturally from one piece to another. Whilst every effort is made to match all colours and finishes, this variation is normal and does not constitute a manufacturing fault.

INSTALLATION

Fitting your shelf โ€” about 10 to 15 minutes

The back of the shelf is already drilled. Two steel rods go into the wall and the shelf slides onto them. No brackets, nothing to assemble.

1. Draw a level line. Using a spirit level, draw a pencil line on the wall the same length as your shelf, where you want it to sit. Mark the centre point.

2. Transfer the hole positions. Measure from the end of the shelf to the centre of the first hole, then mark that same distance in from each end of your line. Take the measurement from your own shelf rather than assuming โ€” the holes are drilled at roughly 80mm in, but they are approximate.

3. Drill. An 11mm masonry bit for our 10mm rods, no deeper than 75mm. Keep the drill straight, at 90 degrees to the wall โ€” if the holes go in at an angle the shelf will not sit level.

4. Fit the rods, then the shelf. Push each rod in expansion plug first, then turn it clockwise with a spanner until the plug expands and grips. Slide the shelf onto the rods and check it with the level.

Full fitting instructions: page one and page two. A copy comes in the box.

If it is not sitting level

Usually it means a hole has gone in at a slight angle. Take the shelf off, check the rods with your level, and true them up with the spanner. What you cannot change is where the rods sit โ€” that is set by the holes โ€” so steps 1 and 2 are where to take your time.

What is in the box

The shelf, pre-drilled, and the steel rods with their expansion plugs. Two rods up to 140cm, three on a 150cm shelf. Nothing else to buy.

Where the holes are

Roughly 80mm in from each end, or 100mm on a 150cm shelf. These are approximate. If you need them in a particular place, to miss a pipe or line up with a stud, message us before we make it and we will put them where you want.

Which walls

The rods and plugs are for solid brick or block. They are not suitable for plasterboard on its own, and we do not supply plasterboard fixings for this product.

If your wall is plasterboard you have two options: fix into the timber studs behind it, or choose a bracket shelf instead โ€” brackets spread the load and are far more forgiving on a hollow wall. Our guide to fitting floating shelves on plasterboard walks through both.

What it will hold

Two 10mm hardened steel rods set into solid masonry โ€” no bracket, nothing visible. What limits the load is the wall behind it, not the shelf. Books, plants and kitchen jars are all everyday use. If you are planning something heavy, or you are not sure what your wall is, send us a photo and we will tell you straight.

Customer photo review of Solid Oak Floating Shelf

I wanted a floating shelf for mugs in our redone kitchen. It looks great, but be aware that each piece of oak like this has its own grain and imperfections, we turned the shelf over fir a better effect.

Customer photo review of Solid Oak Floating Shelf

Beautiful shelf perfect for what we want. Couldn't have found a better one.

Solid Oak Floating Shelf

Very good product and looks nice> It added the needed warmth to my flat's interior.

Solid Oak Floating Shelf

Lovely shelf but poor customer service. Not interested in helping us to sort out suitable fittings when the ones sent with the floating shelf arenโ€™t suitable for our walls (and two hardware shops donโ€™t stock the fittings we need because the screws are imperial and unusual sizes apparently.) so yeah. The lovely shelf is just propped up on the floor for now.

Solid Oak Floating Shelf

After the wrong type of shelf was originally delivered (hence dropping a star in the rating) I eventually received the solid oak floating shelf. The fixings were fairly easy to fit and the shelf looks very smart and feels secure.

Solid Oak Floating Shelf

A lovely shelf, very good quality. Can't wait to see it up!
