More about our Wall Mounted Coat Racks

Choosing a wall mounted coat rack

The whole point of a wall mounted rack is to get coats up off the floor and keep a narrow space clear. Ours fix flat to the wall with the mounting holes hidden behind the outer two hooks, so once it is up no screws show and you get a clean finish.

Fixing is straightforward. On a solid brick or plaster wall, the supplied fixings do the job. On a plasterboard wall, fix into the studs or use fixings rated for the load, because a full rack carries the weight of several heavy coats and bags. It is worth finding your studs before you drill so the rack sits exactly where you want it.

For size, measure your wall first, then pick the hook count to suit. Allow around 12 to 15cm per hook so coats hang freely. Every rack is solid oak, pine or painted, made to order and cut to your width, with the option of a shelf above for the everyday bits by the door.

Frequently asked questions

How is it fixed to the wall?
The mounting holes sit behind the outer two hooks, so once it is up all the screws are hidden. On a solid wall the supplied fixings are fine; on plasterboard, fix into the studs or use fixings rated for the load.
Does it take up floor space?
No, that is the point of a wall mounted rack. It keeps coats off the floor and frees up a narrow hallway.
How much weight will it hold?
Each hook is rated to hold a heavy winter coat. Fixed correctly, a full rack takes a family's worth of coats and bags.
Can I add a shelf?
Yes, a solid wood shelf above the hooks gives you a spot for keys, post and everyday bits.
