ย Description:

This solid oak fireplace beam is designed to create a strong focal point above any fireplace or wood burner. With a 15cm high ร— 10cm deep profile, it offers a more prominent and substantial look compared to slimmer mantel beams.

Handcrafted from solid oak, each beam displays natural grain patterns, subtle knots and gentle variations in tone. The increased height enhances the visual impact while maintaining a clean floating mantel shelf appearance.ย Each oak fireplace beam is made to order in our Yorkshire workshop using FSC-certified timber. The beam is carefully sanded and finished by hand to achieve a smooth surface while preserving the natural character of the wood.

Hidden keyhole fixings allow for secure installation while maintaining a clean floating look above the fireplace. Once fitted, the beam provides a practical shelf for candles, framed photos and decorative pieces.ย Available in lengths from 30cm to 160cm, this oak mantel beam suits both compact fireplace openings and larger chimney breast features.

GOOD TO KNOW

Every beam is different

Our fireplace beams are cut from solid oak, air-dried before it reaches the workshop. Air-dried timber carries its own character โ€” grain, knots, small splits and shakes โ€” and no two beams come out the same.

Once the beam is on your wall it carries on adjusting to the room, and it may open up a little further as it settles. Our Rustic and Traditional beams are dried well enough that this stays small. It isn't a fault, and it isn't something that needs fixing โ€” it's how solid timber behaves in a heated house.

On colour

Screens vary, and so does timber. What you see here will be close, but the beam that arrives will have its own tone. If the finish matters, order a sample pack first and see the wax on real oak in your own light before you commit.

INSTALLATION

Three steps, 10 to 15 minutes

1. The keyhole plates are already routed into the back of the beam before it leaves the workshop. Nothing to fit.

2. Mark your fixing points on the wall, level, and drive the supplied screws into the wall plugs. Leave about 3mm between the screw head and the wall.

3. Lift the beam on and slide it down. The keyhole drops over the screw head and pulls the beam flush to the wall.

What's included

Two keyhole plates, fitted before dispatch โ€” three on beams of 150cm and over. Screws and rawl plugs are supplied in the packaging. You'll need your own drill, a screwdriver, a spirit level and a tape measure. Use the drill size marked on the wall plugs.

What your wall needs to be

Solid brick or block, with a minimum 60mm depth to fix into โ€” not plasterboard alone. Solid oak is heavy, so make sure the fixings are secure and the surface is suitable before you mount it.

If your chimney breast is dot-and-dab

Plasterboard dot-and-dabbed over blockwork is common in 1980s and 1990s houses. The screws need to reach the blockwork behind the plasterboard, which means longer fixings than the standard kit. Send us a message before you order and we'll confirm the right approach for your wall.

Taking it down again

The beam lifts straight back off the screws, so it can be removed and refitted cleanly if you redecorate. No adhesive, nothing permanent.

Fitting above a stove

Oak is combustible. The safe distance is set by your stove manufacturer, not by us โ€” it's in your appliance's installation manual and it varies between models. Your installer should be HETAS registered. If you're unsure, send us your stove model and fireplace measurements and we'll help you work out what length works.
