More about our Wooden Wall Shelves

Why choose solid wood?

The shelves in this range are built from solid timber โ€” the same material from front to back, surface to core. Most mass-market shelving uses an MDF or particleboard core with a veneer or laminate surface. Under load on longer spans, the core creeps and the shelf develops a visible bow. The veneer surface chips and lifts at edges and corners, particularly on shelves that take regular contact โ€” books pulled out and replaced, kitchen jars moved around, plants watered above the shelf.

Solid oak and pine hold their shape across longer spans, mark rather than chip, and can be sanded and re-oiled when they need refreshing. That's not possible once a veneer lifts. A solid wood shelf in a kitchen taking daily use for ten years looks better than a veneered shelf in the same position after three.

Wooden wall shelves handmade in Yorkshire

Every shelf is handmade to order in our Halifax workshop from FSC-certified solid oak or pine โ€” lead time 3โ€“5 days. Fixings are included with every order for standard solid masonry installations. All pieces carry a lifetime structural guarantee. Bespoke sizes are available across the range โ€” if standard widths don't match your alcove, chimney recess or specific wall, get in touch with your measurements before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Are your wooden shelves suitable for kitchens and bathrooms?
Yes, our shelves are made from solid timber and finished by hand, making them suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. Just avoid direct water contact and theyโ€™ll stay looking their best.
How much weight can your floating shelves hold?
When installed into solid masonry or timber studs, our floating shelves can comfortably hold everyday items such as plates, jars, books and dรฉcor. Weight capacity always depends on wall type and fixings.
Do your shelves come with brackets and fixings?
Yes. Floating shelves include concealed fixings, while bracket shelves arrive with the metal brackets shown. All shelves come with the correct fixings for standard installations.
Can your shelves be fitted to plasterboard or stud walls?
Yes, most of our shelves can be installed on plasterboard walls, but weight capacity will be reduced compared to masonry walls. For plasterboard, we recommend using specialist heavy-duty fixings or securing into studs for the strongest hold. Always check your wall type before installation. Please note that our floating wall shelves are not suitable.
Do you offer bespoke sizes or custom lengths?
All of our shelves are handmade to order, so bespoke lengths are usually possible. If you need a specific size, just get in touch and we can advise on pricing and suitability.
What timber do you use for your shelves?
We work with solid oak and pine, all sustainably sourced and finished by hand. Each piece of wood has its own natural grain, character and markings.
Will the shelves show knots or natural wood features?
Yes, this is part of the charm of real wood. You may see natural grain patterns, small knots or slight colour variation. These details are not defects; theyโ€™re what make each shelf unique.
Can I use your shelves as storage shelves as well as display shelves?
Absolutely. Customers commonly use them for storing jars, bowls, books and toiletries, as well as for displaying photos, candles and decorative pieces.
Do you make small shelves for plants or compact spaces?
Yes, our small wooden shelves and mini ledges are ideal for plants, candles and tight areas where a full-length shelf wonโ€™t fit.
How should I care for my wooden shelves?
A light dust and occasional wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth is all they need. Avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged water contact to protect the finish over time.
