SustainabilityFrequently asked questions
Can floating shelves be fitted to plasterboard walls?
Yes โ floating shelves can be fitted to plasterboard walls using cavity anchors, which expand behind the board to create a secure fixing. The supplied fixings are sized for solid masonry; for plasterboard, use cavity anchors rated for the intended load. For the strongest possible fixing on plasterboard, locate and screw directly into the timber studs behind the board.
How much weight can a floating shelf hold?
A properly installed floating shelf can hold between 10โ20kg on solid masonry, depending on fixing type and shelf depth. Each bracket position holds up to 2.5kg when installed into masonry as directed. The key variable is always the wall fixing โ a solid masonry fixing is significantly stronger than plasterboard. Use the supplied fixings and fitting instructions for best results.
Do your floating shelves come with fixings?
Yes โ all fixings are included with every floating shelf order. The fixings supplied are sized for standard solid masonry walls. Full fitting instructions are also included. For plasterboard or stud walls, use cavity anchors rated for your intended load โ these aren't supplied but are available from any DIY store.
Can I order a bespoke size?
Yes โ everything is made to order from our Halifax workshop, so specific lengths and depths are available. Standard sizes are listed in the collection; if you need a non-standard length โ for an alcove, chimney breast, or unusual wall space โ contact us with your measurements and we'll confirm what's possible before you order.
Are your shelves suitable for kitchens and bathrooms?
Solid oak and pine floating shelves are suitable for kitchens and bathrooms with normal ventilation. The timber handles everyday humidity without issue. For wet rooms or poorly ventilated bathrooms, a waxed or oiled finish provides more surface protection than bare wood. Avoid prolonged direct water contact on any unfinished surfaces.
Will my shelf show knots or grain variation?
Yes โ and that's the point of solid timber. Knots, grain movement and colour variation are natural characteristics of solid oak and pine. Each shelf is unique. If you want a completely uniform surface, a painted MDF shelf would be more appropriate โ but if natural character matters to you, solid wood delivers something manufactured materials can't replicate.
What finishes are available?
Oak floating shelves are available in heritage oak, honey, natural and walnut finishes โ all hand-applied in our workshop. Rustic pine shelves are available in light, medium and dark wax. Painted finishes are available on selected shelves. Contact us if you need a specific finish not listed in the collection.

Delivery is free across the UK, and shelves arrive ready to install with all fixings included. Check individual product pages for current lead time estimates if you have a deadline.
