More about our Corner Shelves

More About Our Corner Shelves

What is a corner shelf?

ย A corner shelf is a wall-mounted shelf designed to sit flush into the corner of a room, making use of space that standard rectangular shelves can't access. Installed with concealed fixings into solid masonry or timber studs, a wooden corner shelf creates storage or display space without brackets or floor furniture. Our corner shelves are handmade from solid oak or pine in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Oak Corner Shelvesย

Dense, durable and warm-toned. Our solid oak corner shelves are finished in heritage oak or walnut to highlight the natural grain. Popular in living rooms, bedrooms and home offices where warmth and character matter. Each shelf is unique โ€” knots, grain variation and colour differences are part of the material, not quality issues.

Rustic Corner Shelvesย

Made from solid pine, finished in light, medium or dark wax. Suits farmhouse kitchens, cottage interiors and traditional rooms where natural wood character โ€” knots, grain movement, texture โ€” is the point. Available as individual shelves or sets of three for tiered corner storage from a single order.

Small Corner Shelves

ย For plants, candles and ornaments in tight spaces. Available in small (21cm wide), medium (26cm wide) and large (31cm wide). All shelves are handmade to order โ€” bespoke dimensions are available if a standard size doesn't fit your corner.

Where to Use Corner Shelves

  • Living roomย โ€” books, plants and ornaments in corners that would otherwise sit empty
  • Bedroomย โ€” bedside plants, candles or books without furniture on the floor
  • Kitchenย โ€” spices and small items in corners standard cabinets can't reach
  • Hallwayย โ€” keys, post and candles in a compact corner spot
  • Bathroomย โ€” compact wall storage suitable for normal humidity

How to Choose the Right Corner Shelfย

For display only โ€” plants, candles, small ornaments โ€” a small or medium size is sufficient. For everyday storage of heavier items, choose the large size and install into solid masonry for maximum load capacity. Sets of three give tiered display without multiple separate fixings.

Why Choose Off the Grain?

ย Every corner shelf is handmade to order in Halifax, West Yorkshire โ€” lead time 3โ€“5 days. Solid timber throughout, no MDF or veneer. All wood FSC certified. Fixings included. Bespoke sizes available on request.

Frequently asked questions

Are your wooden shelves suitable for kitchens and bathrooms?
Yes, our shelves are made from solid timber and finished by hand, making them suitable for kitchens and bathrooms. Just avoid direct water contact and theyโ€™ll stay looking their best.
How much weight can your floating shelves hold?
When installed into solid masonry or timber studs, our floating shelves can comfortably hold everyday items such as plates, jars, books and dรฉcor. Weight capacity always depends on wall type and fixings.
Do your shelves come with brackets and fixings?
Yes. Floating shelves include concealed fixings, while bracket shelves arrive with the metal brackets shown. All shelves come with the correct fixings for standard installations.
Can your shelves be fitted to plasterboard or stud walls?
Yes, most of our shelves can be installed on plasterboard walls, but weight capacity will be reduced compared to masonry walls. For plasterboard, we recommend using specialist heavy-duty fixings or securing into studs for the strongest hold. Always check your wall type before installation. Please note that our floating wall shelves are not suitable.
Do you offer bespoke sizes or custom lengths?
All of our shelves are handmade to order, so bespoke lengths are usually possible. If you need a specific size, just get in touch and we can advise on pricing and suitability.
What timber do you use for your shelves?
We work with solid oak and pine, all sustainably sourced and finished by hand. Each piece of wood has its own natural grain, character and markings.
Will the shelves show knots or natural wood features?
Yes, this is part of the charm of real wood. You may see natural grain patterns, small knots or slight colour variation. These details are not defects; theyโ€™re what make each shelf unique.
Can I use your shelves as storage shelves as well as display shelves?
Absolutely. Customers commonly use them for storing jars, bowls, books and toiletries, as well as for displaying photos, candles and decorative pieces.
Do you make small shelves for plants or compact spaces?
Yes, our small wooden shelves and mini ledges are ideal for plants, candles and tight areas where a full-length shelf wonโ€™t fit.
How should I care for my wooden shelves?
A light dust and occasional wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth is all they need. Avoid harsh chemicals and prolonged water contact to protect the finish over time.
Can corner shelves be fitted to plasterboard walls?
No. Our corner shelves require installation into solid masonry or timber studs. They are not suitable for plasterboard walls. If you are unsure about your wall type, we recommend consulting a tradesperson before ordering.
