Wood Care & Sustainability

Our Promise

We place huge importance on sustainability and consistently look for ways to improve.

About our Timber

Wood is a wonderful, natural material, beautiful to look and great to work with. Here at Off the Grain, we use a wide range of timber to make our furniture. All this timber is responsibly sourced & FSC certified. That means that every piece of wood at Off the Grain is sourced from sustainably managed forests in areas where four trees are planted for everyone used.

When you buy from Off the Grain, you can be assured that the timber used has been taken from carefully harvested woods. This process means that the harvesting process only allows a few trees to be taken from each section. This of course has a positive impact on the wildlife in the area, allowing them to retain their natural habitat.

How we are making a difference

Off Cuts: Unfortunately, we are unable to use all the timber that comes through the door. All the left over wood is used in a positive way. Where possible, our off cuts are used to make some of our smaller products or samples. Any off cuts left are made into kindling and donated to help the elderly heat their homes in the local area.

Sawdust: We use extraction units to collect sawdust. This waste product is then donated to local farms to help with the upkeep of horses and other animals.

Plastic: Where possible we limit the use of unnecessary plastic to ensure that our carbon footprint is to a minimum. We are proud of the fact that we only use bubble wrap in exceptional circumstances, such as packaging bespoke items that can not be sent in a box.

Eco-Fill: Rather than using plastic packaging chips to protect our products in transit, we have invested in biodegradable loose fill. When your item has arrived, the loose fill can be put on a compost heap or under a hot tap and they will dissolve.

Cardboard Boxes: Our packaging boxes are made from 100% recycled materials.
